I enjoyed this feature story because it was easy to read and extremely relevant to the pressing times we are experiencing. Artists are vital to our society and I enjoyed this angle and topic for a Black History Month feature story.

I remember coloring in elementary school and many students, including myself, would pick light beige for the "skin-color" of all the characters. It is important to teach kids from the start that skin-color is a very large spectrum and that light skin colors should not be the immediate default of a figurine.

The quotes used in the article had a sense of urgency to them. I enjoyed how the writer picked quotes in which the speaker stressed the importance of representation.

I really liked the quote "...it was surreal to see myself with these people. These are people who are my heroes and that I aspire to be like." because it sounds inspiring and I think many readers may also feel the same way about their cultures' representation. We all have heroes, and it's important to know that they range from all different ethnical backgrounds. I also think the word "surreal" is unique and memorable.
