Artists are vital to our society and I enjoyed this angle and topic for a Black History Month feature story. I remember coloring in elementary school and many students, including myself, would pick light beige for the "skin-color" of all the characters. It is important to teach kids from the start that skin-color is a very large spectrum and that light skin colors should not be the immediate default of a figurine. The quotes used in the article had a sense of urgency to them. I enjoyed how the writer picked quotes in which the speaker stressed the importance of representation.
